The Venue
Beckenham Place Mansion sits in 96 hectares of parkland in Lewisham — a Grade II-listed Georgian house that reopened in 2019 after a major restoration. The mansion's ground-floor rooms open onto a south-facing terrace overlooking the park, which made it ideal for a spring celebration with indoor-outdoor flow.
The host booked us for a private celebration — 80 guests across the terrace and the main hall. The brief was simple: a proper cocktail bar that felt like it belonged in the building, not a pop-up that looked bolted on.
The Setup
We positioned a single bar unit on the terrace, backed against the mansion's stone balustrade. The location gave us natural shelter from wind and kept the bar visible from both the garden and the main hall through the French doors.
- One bar unit with brass rail and dark timber finish — matched the mansion's interior palette
- Full glassware service: coupes, rocks glasses, champagne flutes
- Two bartenders for the 80-person guest list
- Setup completed 90 minutes before first guest arrival
The Drinks
The host wanted a short, confident menu — no decision paralysis, just four serves done properly:
- Aperol Spritz — the terrace drink; Aperol, prosecco, soda, large ice, orange wheel
- Pornstar Martini — vanilla vodka, passionfruit, lime, prosecco shot on the side
- Old Fashioned — rye whiskey, demerara, aromatic bitters, orange peel
- Elderflower Collins — non-alcoholic; elderflower cordial, lemon, soda, cucumber
We served 220 drinks across four hours. The Aperol Spritz led by volume — the terrace setting and the late-afternoon light made it an obvious choice.
Working at Beckenham Place
The mansion has good vehicle access for load-in via the car park at the front of the house. Power is available in the main hall; for terrace service, we ran an extension from the nearest indoor socket. The venue's events team were straightforward to coordinate with — they confirmed layout, access times, and noise restrictions two weeks ahead.
South East London is underserved for high-end mobile bar hire. Most of our bookings cluster around Shoreditch, Hackney, and central London, but Beckenham Place is a venue that deserves better cocktail service than the standard hotel-bar offering. We'd go back any weekend.
"Everyone thought we'd hired a permanent bar. The setup looked incredible against the building, and the drinks were perfect for an outdoor spring party."
